How to join the program

Two ways in — a three-year BA and a two-year MA, both taught in English at the University of Bucharest. Here is what you need, by when, and how to apply.

BA in American Studies

The only cultural-studies bachelor's in Romania with a built-in specialization in a second language, literature, and culture. Admission is by file — there is no entrance exam.

How you're admitted

50% Baccalaureate — Romanian-language exam grade
50% High-school average in English

Your two grades are your admission score. No entrance exam.

Both your languages appear on your diploma transcript.

BA documents & dates

Graduate · 2 years · in English

MA in American Studies

U.S. culture and society in comparative, transnational perspective — along three tracks: Culture & Values, History & Politics, Society & Communication. Open to graduates of any field.

The interview

  • A short oral interview, held online over Google Meet, in English.
  • Talk about your previous research or study — for instance, your BA thesis.
  • Describe the questions you would like to pursue in American studies.

An optional brochure of research ideas in American cultural studies is available to help you prepare.

MA registration & documents

How to apply

Registration and documents live on the University's admissions portal. This is the shape of it.

BA

  1. Sit your baccalaureate — your Romanian-exam grade and English average become your admission score.
  2. Register during the July session on the Faculty of Foreign Languages portal, with your file.
  3. The merit ranking is published; confirm your place and enrol.

MA

  1. Register July 6–13 on the Faculty admissions portal.
  2. Prepare a short account of your research interests — and your BA thesis, if you have one.
  3. Attend the online interview on July 14 at 1 pm.
  4. Results and enrolment follow shortly after.

What to prepare

Identity & diplomas

Your ID, and your baccalaureate diploma (BA) or your degree and transcript (MA).

Proof of English

BA: your high-school English record. MA: demonstrated at the interview.

Your registration file

The application form and photos, exactly as listed on the University portal.

Places & fees

Both programs offer state-funded places, awarded on merit at admission, alongside a number of fee-paying places. The BA enrolls around 80 students a year, with 30 state-funded seats; the MA offers 25 places — 15 state-funded and 10 fee-paying.

Current tuition for fee-paying places is published by the University each year.
